Learn more about the latest breakthrough addition to our Fresh Step® clay based litter—activated carbon. |
While you may not know what activated carbon is, you probably already have items that contain it in your home. Activated carbon is used as a freshening ingredient in many household items, including:
- Water Filters
- Air Filters
- Fish Tank Filters
|
| What is activated carbon? |
When carbon is heated with steam or carbon dioxide at 1000°C in the absence of oxygen, it becomes activated carbon. The activation process gives the carbon a porous interior and an extremely high surface area—a unique combination that makes it an outstanding material for absorbing odors. |
 |
| How does activated carbon work in your cat litter? |
We use a special process to introduce activated carbon to the litter granules. The carbon acts like a magnet for organic-based odors by grabbing them and holding them to the surface of the carbon. In other words, cat waste odors actually get absorbed. |
 |
| And, just 5 grams of activated carbon has the surface area of a football field to absorb odors. |
