Kansas City Pet Project

Kansas City, MO
On January 1, 2012, KC Pet Project assumed operations of the Kansas City, Missouri municipal shelter with a history of very high kill rates. Within 6 months we were saving more than 90% of all of the animals entering the shelter and have maintained a better than 90% live release rate since that time.

A new shelter is badly needed but until then, we will continue to make improvements to the existing shelter, and implement programs and services for the pets and people in Kansas City.
We've opened TWO new satellite pet adoption centers allowing us to dramatically increasing pet adoptions in 2013 by 90%.

In 2014, nearly 10,000 animals (a record number) will enter the shelter, the highest number of homeless animals cared for in Kansas City since 2007! The current shelter was built in 1972 and is outdated and beyond its useful life. Even with these challenges, the staff at KC Pet Project remain committed to saving the lives of the homeless pets coming to us.
